Over 40 Years in Jewelry Design

I am a seven-year United States Air Force (USAF) veteran; a Wife of a retired USAF veteran, Dick, who I love dearly; a Mother, who is proud of her son, Greg; a Grammie, who adores her only grandson, Loki and a woman, who is passionate about jewelry.

When I asked women what comes to mind when they think about jewelry, most responded, “Gold, Pearls and Costume Jewelry.” Gold was described a real and expensive. Pearls were pearls – Japanese akoya, Tahitian and freshwater (both lake and stream). Costume jewelry was described as fake and inexpensive. Most women preferred owning one piece of “Real Jewelry” versus “Fake Jewelry”.

My love for jewelry has grown over the years. As an adolescent, my fascination for jewelry was shown by collecting costume jewelry. As a Staff Sergeant stationed in Germany, I had the opportunity to travel to over 26 countries and became aware of semi-precious gemstone jewelry – “Other Real Jewelry”. While visiting these countries, I began collecting “Real Jewelry” pieces as souvenirs.

I view jewelry as an extension of my womanhood and personality – Jewelry and Woman are Synonymous! I started a home-based business, Creative Gems by Helene, Incorporated to educate and offer woman the – “Other Real Jewelry”. Also, I have further my offerings to include privately designed precious and semi-precious jewelry.

You may wonder where “Helene” comes from. I liked the sound of “Creative Gems by Helene” better than “Creative Gems by Helen”. My maiden name starts with and “E”. I cut off the “E” and added it to “Helen”. Helene is the designer and Helen is the “worker bee” and if you’re not thoroughly confused – I will answer to both!

I marketed all jewelry via trunk shows through the military exchanges – AAFES, NEX and MCX, veteran hospitals, local corporations and home jewelry parties. I had contracts and showings throughout the New England and Mid-Atlantic states.

I am no longer able to have trunk shows but would still like to market my jewelry. This website is an introduction to some of my offerings – past, present and future. I enjoy the one-on-one interaction with customers and offering jewelry at affordable prices.
